Home With The Horns- Home Tour

Home Tour

First off, I hope you guys are enjoying my blog thus far. I though for the first few blog posts, it would be nice to share some fun things about my family and include a peek into our home.  I am hoping this helps everyone get to know us a little better.

Over the years, I have put a lot of time into our home so I am very excited to share some of our favorite rooms/spots. Our house, as a whole, is very modern. It is newly built and has tons of large windows and natural lighting. A bright and colorful entryway, an all white kitchen, and the world’s comfiest family area, are the main focuses on the first floor.

Our entryway couch ties in perfectly with one of our favorite art pieces. Believe it or not, Michael’s mother, Sharon, painted this beautiful picture for us. After the entryway is  our dining area, followed by our kitchen.

For our kitchen space I wanted an open layout which would be a great area for hosting guests and family. Our large island in the middle is the perfect space for loved ones to gather. Directly next to the kitchen area is our family room. I don’t want to toot my own horn here, but I think I found the world’s most comfortable couch. Downside… if you have a day filled with “things to do” and you sit down, there goes your day. This cloud-like couch was purchased from Domicile, along with the matching ottoman, custom pillows, glass table and dining room table.

The property was purchased in 2013 and we started building immediately. We moved  in mid-2014 and then slowly but surel. y painted, purchased new furniture, and hung artwork. Our bedroom was a tricky subject. Michael had nightstands and a dresser that he LOVED. They were brand new pieces and he had them shipped from Italy. For the hubs, they were a must keep. My only problem… they are purple. However, after adding in a neutral bed/bedding, I can honestly say they might be my favorite pieces in the room (don’t tell him though). Our shelves were custom made and the final addition I added to the space.

Since Michael is still in denial that he no longer lives in Florida, it was very important for him to have a lot of outdoor space and, if possible, a pool. After several months of planning and permits galore, we were able to achieve just that. Our roof deck is fully finished with built in couches and tables, a fire place and an outdoor television. We love sitting outside in the summer having dinner or even watching a movie up there once the sun goes down. New current project… shade. Since we have the baby, now I am constantly needing a shaded area for him on the hot Chicago days so we are working on “getting shady with it”  as we speak.

Due to the fact that we placed our pool on top of the garage, we had to have a specialty garage built to withstand the weight. The good news was, since we were building and starting from scratch,  we were able to do this the first time around without having to knockdown an existing garage already. The pool was the last piece of our home that was finished but we definitely use it during the short Chicago summers. Greyson loves to swim so we try to get him in there as much as possible.

Your pool is so clever. My grandfather was in the pool business a longtime ago:).
