Welcome! Welcome! I hope you guys are enjoying the blog thus far =) I have a few more in the draft phases but let me know if there are any topics in particular that you interested in!
I’ve had a few requests/comments asking where the pictures of my closet are in the ’home tour’ blog and/or how I organize the space. Let me start off by saying that Michael and I have only lived in our home for 4years and I’ve already done a major reconstruction project to expand the closet space. I am constantly trying to figure out the best way to maximize the space or store things.
(Please see below for photo of me casually dressed on a Tuesday morning showing my closet space).
I ended up doing three levels of hanging items on one side to completely utilize all the space. I generally keep sweaters on top, shirts/blouses in the middle and then pants on the bottom. All rows are organized by color. The other side, directly across, has two rows of hanging and I had suitcase storage made for the top. Obviously, the issue of “how will I get to the top row of clothes” was a large concern while constructing this. Insert rolling ladder. So far I report zero injuries on said ladder, which is shocking due to my overwhelmingly large incidence of clumsiness.
Shoes are also sorted by color. I keep the flats on the side shelves (non shown) and the heels in the middle. The bottom row is much taller to allow space for boots. Alright, lets talk the details that everyone wants to know… comfort. I have a ton of different brands of shoes but I will say that the one pair of heels that never fails me, as far as comfort and style goes, are Jimmy Choo. If there was one brand that I thought would be worth saving up and splurging on it would be those. I purchased a pair of Jimmy’s for my wedding, along with a pair of flats I planned on wearing for comfort since it was going to be a long day, and I ended up wearing the Jimmy’s all night! As far as flats go, I always find my Tory Burch’s (espadrilles and sandals) not only comfortable but durable. Hope this is helpful!
Jewelry and belts was a tricky subject when trying to figure out how to store/sort them. I ended up going with a sliding bar thingy (I’m sure thats the technical term). They are hidden on the side of the closet and then whenever I need a belt or necklace I just pull out the ‘sliding bar thingy’ take what I need and place it back. BAM. I’m basically a magician.
When we redid the closet I wanted to keep as much as the original bones that were already in place with my main concern being maximize the space. Overall, a closet is a closet and it works perfect for us. For those that are concerned, yes Michael is allowed minimal storage of the space. Kidding… kinda =) The whole other side is for him! He’s swimming in space. The middle island is the perfect storage for sunglasses, bracelets and earrings, workout clothes, pajamas ect…
Alrighty that about wraps it up! Hope you guys enjoyed a little peek into the space where I stand for roughly 30-40min. a day saying “I have nothing to wear!” Also, for those wondering, yes I did just happen to have this black dress aimlessly lying around in the closet for the photos. No clue why. Only slightly baffled. Stay turned for a look at Michael’s side as a share some of my favorite suit brands and other clothing for him! Cheers everyone!
